Student voice has a very important role to play within the life of the school. The group, consisting of eight students, meets around twice a term to discuss the life of the school. The group have a motto ‘Better for me, better for you’, this statement was created by the group and the members of the group take this motto very seriously!
Over the last year the students have worked on creating a ‘what’s expected poster’. This shows other students what is expected of them when they are in the classroom. A set of the posters are displayed in every classroom within the school and also in the main building. The group have also been working closely with the catering department and recently three members of the group represented the views of students at a meeting with the schools catering manager. The meeting looked at ways to improve the current catering arrangements within the school, and as a result, a new three week menu has been created. This new menu is proving to be very popular with students. The group are currently working on a British values poster that will be displayed around the school.
Other areas that student voice has addressed include:
Student voice not only implements changes with the school, but those members of the group also build confidence, as they have to share their opinions, listen to others views, prioritise issues and learn how to behave in a meeting setting.
